Why does Husky have blue eyes
Blue eye color – not typical for dogs. This amazing Husky’s peculiarity is a mutation, which was revealed by the results large-scale genetic “census” of animals. Specialists from Embark Veterinary studied the genomes of more than 3,000 dogs of various breeds, to understand why Siberian huskies have such an amazing color eye.
According to statistics, every second representative of the breed is different “icy” look. While among other dogs it is rare phenomenon. But all blue-eyed dogs have common mutations associated with genes PMEL17 and ALX4. However, the anomalous structure of the latter found only in husky. The neighborhood of this gene in blue-eyed handsome doubled – it has become longer by 100,000 nucleotide characters.
This DNA region is responsible for the activity of another gene – MITF. It is he who is associated with pigment cells of the skin, eyes and other body structures.
Scientists have concluded that DNA damage near with ALX4 dramatically changes the gene. Its “readability” is increasing, why the pigment cells of the eye iris produce more light molecules. The result of this is the heavenly color of the husky’s eyes.
Breed features
Husky, despite his sweetness, is not a beautiful plush toy, and a serious large dog, which needs to be provided with decent conditions of detention. Among the advantages of the breed:
