The weight of adult basenji males and females averages 11 and 9.5 kg respectively. The average height of males is 43 cm, females – 40 cm.

- Males usually weigh from 10 to 12 kg, females – from 9 to 11.
- Males have a height at the withers of 41-44 cm, females – 38-41 cm.
The dimensions of an adult basenji are primarily determined by its genetics, the size of both of his parents. Therefore the size of the puppy, especially at an early age, is not an accurate indicator of it final size. Some puppies grow faster than others, and some grow a little slower.

Basenji reaches its maximum weight and height at 12 months. However, some of the young dogs continue to grow somewhat longer, sometimes up to the age of 14 months. During this time they develop their muscles and reach full maturity.
