Fish evolution is accelerated by anglers

Commercial fishing speeds up their evolution. Came to this conclusion Researchers from Cornell University, USA.

Biologists have studied the genome of Atlantic menidia. It turned out that many fish genetic sequences change under human exposure to its environment. Intensive catch threatens the existence of certain species of commercial fish, and evolution protects animals from extinction – genes are activated, responsible for adapting to different conditions, resulting in survival is increasing. For example, fish get smaller, which allows them to avoid getting into fishing nets.
