Scientists have discovered how lizards survive in hurricanes

Harvard University researchers in America learned how lizards can survive a severe hurricane, even being at its epicenter. In the journal Nature, they published the results of their observations.

Not all lizards are equally useful. Actually, the problem is not animals themselves, and in their limbs. American scientists have long been noticed that some lizards die during hurricanes and tornadoes (which are not uncommon in the USA), and some survive and feel perfectly.

Last fall, an expedition led by Colin Donihue visited the islands of the West Indies to study morphology and behavior lizards. Scientists have counted the number of individuals and their species. It turned out that some species of lizards are very long and tenacious “fingers”.

Long-toed lizards are more tenacious

Immediately after the expedition several the strongest hurricanes that destroyed more than a dozen animals and caused irreparable damage to nature. When the elements subsided, scientists returned and found that all lizards with long fingers survived unlike their short-toed counterparts. it confirmed and video on hidden cameras that scientists left, leaving the island, before the storms.
